Members and friends, welcome to our website! We are a vibrant, friendly and varied group of almost 200 quilters and quilt artists who have been sharing quilts, talent and camaraderie for quite awhile now. We are now entering our 31st year. There are monthly meetings, most of them with special speakers, quilt related activities, show and tell, etc. We have quilt shows every other year, and lots of quilt-ins, challenges, round robins, and community service projects, along with an impressive library for our members - something for everyone! As you navigate this website, you will see some of our work, see our schedule, and share our accomplishments. If you are interested in quilting, please join us the first Thursday of the month for our Guild Meeting. We love to meet visitors and will make you feel at home!

Quilt Show dates

Our Quilt Show dates have been announced. It will be November 4 & 5, 2017. We hope to have a wide variety of quilts for your viewing pleasure. Our opportunity quilt is starting to make the rounds and will be at the Orland Craft Fair November 26 & 27. Take a drive out to see our quilt, and of course our boutique where you can purchase holiday gifts (early) for that special person in your life.

We are now looking for vendors to be at our quilt show. The Vendor Letter and Vendor Application are under our Quilt Show tab. Our quilt show folks will be happy to receive all applications.

We still have openings on committees for the quilt show. If you have not yet signed up, please do so. Just as it takes a village to raise a child - it takes a quilt guild, and all the members, to put on a quilt show. Let's show our Quilt Chair all the love and help we can.

November meeting

November 3rd will be Don Linn and his quilt magic! He has a "hat" full of things to share and then on November 4th, Don will be teaching "Split Deco" and with his technique, you will be doing curves in little to no time at all.
This quilt is a whole lot easier than it looks to make. Call Kelly Knox to sign up and she'll be happy to get you the fabric requirements and all you will need to know for the workshop.

Never under estimate the fun you will have learning this technique.

While our meeting will have Don explaining just how he became a quilter, you can be sure it will be fun and entertaining. If you've not ever been to one of Don's talks, you're in for a treat. And if you have been to one, come again and see what's new.

And don't forget that November 3rd is also when our 2016 Challenge quilts are due. They will be on display in December for Viewer's Choice.

See you then!

Energy level high

Yes, you read correctly! The energy level at our October 6th meeting will be high. We will be having Rob Appell as our speaker for the evening. If you have not ever attended one of his trunk shows, you are in for a very high energy evening. His quilts are amazing, his ideas are more than intriguing, his energy super high, and there's a smile on his face to say he's glad to be here.

His workshop filled quickly and the waiting list did as well. But there's plenty of room to come see the trunk show. For those who are not members of our guild, there is a $5 charge to attend.

We, as guild members, look forward to this meeting and are hoping for all kinds of good things to happen. We hope to see you there!

New officers for a new year

We have a full slate of newly elected officers for the new year. Come see who's leading us this coming year. We have an all star year planned and there will be surprises galore.

We will be having another fun meeting in September with Cara Gulati who will be treating us to some of her beautiful creations. She has a website, DoodlePress, where you can look to your heart's content. Her workshop will be Ribbon Riot and it's gorgeous. Check with our workshop chair to see if there's still room for you.

We are starting, in September, to take our 2017 Opportunity Quilt around to various locations. We hope to have a list up for you soon. We will be at the Farmer's Market in September, don't remember the dates, but you'll love the quilt and want to buy tickets.

Upcoming meeting

Hello to all our fellow quilters! Annie's Star Quilt Guild will be having a very busy meeting on August 4th. We will be having our election off officers that night. We will be finding out who will lead us for the next year that starts in September. As a member, please make sure your vote is counted!

We will be hosting Catherine Wilson of Queenie Quilts for the evening. She has an exciting program lined up for us and will be teaching on Friday. Hopefully, you are signed up and ready to start stitching this beautiful pattern.

The meeting will start at 7pm, doors open at 6:30pm, and a good time will be had by all. So bring your show & tell, your stories to share, and your checkbook so you can buy some patterns. Catherine is a certified Judy Neimeyer instructor and has more than 20 years of quilting experience. Her quilts are vibrant and sure to please.

See you there!

Upcoming dates

We have lots of fun planned for the upcoming months. The calendar has been updated for the Guild meetings through December 2016. The workshops will be added once this writer finds the information.

Right now we are in need of members to help with the 2017 Quilt Show committees. We need help in a lot of places and while it is still out a little over a year, that time will fly fast. The sooner we get everything up and functioning, the easier the quilt show will pull together in 2017. Contact our 2017 Quilt Show chair, Teresa Yocum to volunteer.

Our nominating committee has indicated that they will be publishing the names of those who have volunteered to take offices next year in the newsletter. Please check it out and remember, we need to all work together to make our guild the best guild we can. Voting will take place in August so make sure that you are there to cast your ballot!

There are still some committee openings, so if you've always wanted to try one, grab a friend and do it together. Most of the committees can be shared with at least one buddy, or more.

Our guild dues are coming due as well. They are due in September and are considered delinquent in November. The forms were emailed out and you can get a copy on the web page as well. It will be in the newsletter, so there is no excuse to not turn it in.

See you at the next meeting!

Fun and laughter

For those of you who missed the treat of having Anelie Belden at our meeting April 7th, you missed a truly amazing treat. She has a way with words and kept us totally enthralled. She shared not only her beautiful quilts, but stories about herself that were a riot. As a guild, we laughed and then laughed some more. She told us what she did with dresden plates that didn't lay flat - or rather she showed us. This created more laughter.

Those who took the workshop on Friday will have more tales to tell come our share and tell in May. You don't want to miss the fun.

Our speaker in May will be Lura S-Smith who does the most amazing art quilts. This writer wishes my brain and hand could do the same.  You will have to see them to truly understand her talent.

Our June meeting will be our community sew night and I'm urging all to come and work. This night has been, in the past, a night of amazing quilt top production. I expect this year to be the same. Some groups have everything cut out before hand and get together more than one top. Some groups pull kits from community service and get tops together. Come join the fun - it's a portion of your membership requirement to make something for community service and this is a great way to share with the guild members and have a fun night.

July is our anniversary. This year we celebrate 35 years and hope all will join in on the fun. A potluck dinner and dessert is purchased by the guild. Sometimes we have games, sometimes we have silent auctions of items donated. We always have fun. So come join us and celebrate with fellow guild members.

Upcoming guild meetings and workshops

You've joined the guild - now become a part of the fun. There are things for everyone to join in on. We have our newsletter block - everyone could do this and then we'd have several winners. Then there's the $2 block where the last couple of months, they've sold out - you have to be quick on this one. There's the fat quarters table where you pay for a chance to win 5 lovely fat quarters. Last month there were 4 winners! If you didn't enter, shame on you. If you did and won, we expect to see what you made with them in Show & Tell.

We're jazzed each month by our speakers who have plenty of knowledge and talent to share. Guild nights we get a lecture and then on Friday following we have a workshop. Most of our workshops are full. Our workshop chair has been busy cheering us on and getting us to take part. We are enjoying the Show And Tell from our guild members who have finished quilts. Sometime we even see the ones done in workshops one month at the next meeting. AND we hear about what a great time was had by all.

We have a fantastic lineup coming. March we have Sandra Bruce who will be doing a lecture on Material Matrix, where she explains how she got started on this type of quilt. Her workshop, Wake Up Cup, is full with a waiting list. April sees Anelie Belden coming to lecture on Dresden Dance, with a workshop on Split-Blade Dresden. The sample quilt is gorgeous! May will have us hosting Lura S-Smith for a lecture with a 2 day workshop.

That will put us to June. Community Sew Night. A night where groups of us bring sewing machines and we create quilt tops for community service. It might be something you'd like to do. If you don't have a group already together, contact our Community Service group and they will help you get into a group. There's always room for one more group. Do yourself a favor - come join in the fun, you'll be glad you did!

The Start of a New Year

Here it is, the start of a New Year. And Annie's Star Quilt Guild is ready to start with an amazing talent, and, one of our 'own' members.

Thursday, January 7, Phyllis Cullen will be back with us to dazzle us with what she's been doing since she moved away. She served as president of our guild and we are super happy to welcome her back to speak and share her talents. She will be thrilled to know that so many have come to see her. Her show & tell will delight those who've not seen her work and those of us who have seen her work, are hoping for some new, not seen by us, quilts along with their stories.

The workshop that Phyllis is doing is on Fabric Portraits and it's a 2 day class that's full. Before you ask, yes, she does do portraits with fabric rather than paint. Her work is amazing and those who are signed up for the workshop are getting more and more excited to get started.

We will continue on with an amazing line up of guest speakers and teachers. We have lined up for the guild's pleasure, and yours should you join us, Carrie Fondi, Sandra Bruce, Anelie Belden, Lura S-Smith, Queenie Quilts, Cara Culati, Rob Appell, and Don Linn. While they may not all be your personal favorites yet, we think they will become your favorites. And as we find out what the guild meeting lecture will be, and the workshops, we will post them.

So join us as we present this amazing schedule of speakers who also do a fantastic job of teaching us the tricks of the trade. Sometime they come up with ideas that we haven't thought of and we decide it works better than the way we've "always done it".
